Guilds & Early Capitalism T-Shirt

A guild hall, an open book of articles under a wax seal, and three men at work: an apprentice, a journeyman and a master. The trade sign of the smiths hangs from the gable. Below them the tools of inspection — shears, hammer, balance and dividers.

Medieval craft guilds were institutions before they were workshops. A charter granted the right to a trade, a hall gave that right an address, and a ladder from apprentice to journeyman to master decided who was allowed to make things at all. Work was weighed, measured and marked before it could be sold. That is the argument on the back of this shirt.

Print and placement
- Front: the Writesides of History mark on the wearer's left chest, about 8.5 cm wide
- Back: full print, about 28 cm wide and 43 cm tall
- White and grey carry the standard artwork; black and true navy carry a version prepared for dark fabric
